Jaconell was born in Citrusdal and grew up on a beautiful orange farm overlooking the Cedarberg mountains in the Western Cape of South Africa. She started playing the piano by ear at age 4, and at age 8 she learnt how to read music and started her classical training.  In 1991, she started taking piano lessons from the well-known Juliana de Villiers, then a senior lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch Conservatory.

Jaconell joined Stellenbosch High School in 1994 and also started taking lessons in saxophone as second instrument from well known teacher, Darryl Walters, who also used to be a lecturer at Stellenbosch University.  Both Juliana and Darryl had a tremendous influence on Jaconell's life.  They always emphasized the importance of passion in music making, no matter what the instrument.  She once heard a phrase that has stayed with her all her musical life, “The essential thing is not just playing the notes, but playing the Music.”

After Jaconell finished high school, she left to study Jazz at the Technikon Pretoria, now known as TUT.  While studying, she started working as a freelance musician.  She was booked as a sax player, keyboard player and backing vocalist.  After finishing her studies, she stayed on in Gauteng working as a freelancer.  And over the years, her career blossomed to the point where she is now considered one of the top musicians / arrangers in South Africa.

In 2009, she was employed by Herman van Veen, iconic European artist, to be a part of a show written and directed by him to be performed in Belgium and Germany.  In the past few years, she has been Musical Director for many live shows, DVD recordings and TV recordings, including “Noot vir Noot” and “Sweepslag”.  She also plays for South African Idol.  In 2011 she arranged and produced Coenie de Villiers' new album, “Hart van Glas”, which has been critically acclaimed for its outstanding production values and innovative direction.  She has also played piano with orchestra for some US projects.

In 2010 Jaconell formed her band, Quantum, a band in the tradition of Yellowjackets, Fourplay, and others.  The band consists of Erik Paliani on guitar, Denny Lalouette on bass, David Klassen on drums and herself on keyboards.  Her current plans are that in the near future Quantum will gradually change from a band playing covers to a band playing original material.

In late 2010, Jaconell and world renown composer, arranger and musician, Jeremy Lubbock, decided to work together as writers to develop material for Quantum and to write songs.  Jeremy worked in Hollywood for many years as arranger and/or songwriter for the likes of Michael Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Ray Charles, Celine Dion, Josh Groban and many others.

The collaboration of Jaconell and Jeremy can be heard on Coenie de Villiers new album mentioned above.
